Demon Realm
Demon
The Demon race represents the purest embodiment of evil and malevolence, their very existence woven from the threads of malice. Yet, it is important to note that not all Demons wholly embrace this reputation; a rare few stand in defiance of the notion that their kind is irredeemably wicked, demonstrating that even within the darkest of beings, there can be exceptions to the rule.
Demons, in many respects, share certain similarities with Fairies. Both are primordial races within their respective realms, but Demons are unique as the original and oldest race of the Demon Realm. Their ancient lineage sets them apart and above the myriad other demonic races inhabiting their world, fostering a pervasive sense of superiority and entitlement. This self-assuredness, often bordering on arrogance, is deeply ingrained in their culture and interactions with others.
Whereas Fairies conceal their power behind deceptive appearances, making it nearly impossible to discern their strength or rank at a glance, Demons are the opposite. Within Demon society, it is customary—and remarkably accurate—to judge a Demon’s power and status visually. This tradition stems from their connection to the Demon King, whose rank serves as the ultimate measure. The closer a Demon’s appearance resembles that of the King, the higher their position and might. Thus, a single look is usually sufficient to estimate a Demon’s standing within their hierarchy.
Characteristics
Demons display a striking range of physical features that reflect their rank, with those at the lowest level—E rank—appearing most similar to humans, aside from their distinguishing black sclera. This human-like resemblance can make low-ranking Demons difficult to identify, but as their power increases, so does the divergence in their appearance.
The Demon race is uniquely notable for the way their physical traits evolve with their rank, from E to A, marking their ascension through the social and power structure of the Demon Realm. Each rank brings specific changes, meaning Demons of the same rank often share key characteristics, although individual differences may still exist.
Below is a detailed breakdown of the differences observed in Demons from D to A rank (excluding E rank):
D rank: Demons at this stage acquire a small, pointed tail reminiscent of classic Demon iconography, in addition to their ever-present black sclera. This tail marks their first noticeable departure from their base form.
C rank: The development of two modest, curved horns emerges at this rank, accompanied by a lengthening of the tail, emphasising their growing power. These horns are a key signifier of advancement within Demon society.
B rank: Both horns and tail become more pronounced, with the horns thickening and the tail extending further. In addition, B rank Demons sprout a pair of small, leathery wings, further enhancing their demonic appearance and hinting at their increasing capabilities.
A rank: At the pinnacle of standard Demon hierarchy, individuals exhibit a second, smaller set of horns positioned near the original pair. Their wings undergo significant growth, becoming large and robust enough to enable true flight. These features unmistakably distinguish A rank Demons from their lesser counterparts.
While pride and arrogance are commonly observed traits among Demons, their personalities are also marked by cunning and deceit. Demons are adept at manipulation, frequently resorting to lies and subterfuge to achieve their goals, sometimes going so far as to use their own kin as mere pawns in their schemes. This willingness to sacrifice familial bonds for personal gain is a testament to their ruthless nature.
In terms of longevity, Demons are remarkably long-lived, with lifespans regularly surpassing 20,000 years. However, there are notable exceptions to this general rule, such as members of the Inanis family and those who hold the prestigious Primordial rank, whose life cycles may differ significantly from the norm.
