Fairy Realm
Dullahan
The Dullahan stands apart from almost every other race within the Fairy Realm, for it is not a people in the conventional sense, nor a bloodline that stretches across generations. Rather, the Dullahan is singular: one being, one origin, and one ending. Unlike the great races whose lineage may be traced through countless descendants to their first Primal Lord, the Dullahan exists as a contradiction to that order, a race comprised of only a single soul. In this way, the Dullahan is both the first and the last of its kind, a Kinless Primal Lord whose existence begins and ends entirely within itself. No second Dullahan has ever been born, and none ever will be, making the race less a lineage and more a living mystery set against the natural laws that govern all others.
Characteristics
What little is truly known of the Dullahan only deepens the unease surrounding it. Around the neck are visible stitch-like markings, as though the boundary between head and body has been deliberately sealed and yet never fully made whole. This unsettling feature is made stranger still by the Dullahan’s unnatural ability to remove its own head, leaving the space where it should rest consumed instead by spectral flame. That fire is most often described as ominous and unnatural, transforming absence itself into something terrible to behold. To most, the Dullahan already carries an atmosphere of darkness and quiet dread, but Fairies, through the gift of their Faerie eyes, are said to perceive something more: an unusual aura that cloaks the Dullahan like a shroud, enveloping it in a dim and grim presence unlike that of any other being in the realm. It is not merely the appearance of the Dullahan that marks it as aberrant, but the sense that its very existence is wrapped in a mystery only partially visible to the ordinary eye.
Though so much of the Dullahan remains unknown, one truth is spoken of with unusual certainty, its strength is profoundly unnatural. In raw physical might, the Dullahan is said to stand on par with the Wyverns, a comparison that alone speaks volumes, for few races could ever hope to rival the sovereigns of the skies in sheer power. That such force resides within a singular being, one already set apart by its impossible nature, only magnifies the fear and reverence with which the Dullahan is regarded. It is not simply rare, nor merely strange, but a solitary anomaly whose body, aura, and power all resist the ordinary rules by which the other races are understood.
